McDougal Center To Close At End Of Current School Year

LEE CO., Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – In a press release sent to WCBI, Director of Communications and Marketing Kay Bishop announced the McDougal Center would be closing for good at the end of this school year.

The statements reads:

“Today, we announce the closure of the McDougal Center effective at the end of this school year.  For over 40 years, the McDougal Center has served North Mississippi’s disabled children; however, participation outside of Lee County has gradually declined.  Districts have been able to serve students in their home schools rather than busing them long distances to the McDougal Center.  Currently, the Center is served through a partnership with LifeCore, Lee County Schools and Tupelo Public Schools.

“We realize how difficult this transition will be for everyone involved. LifeCore, Lee County Schools and Tupelo Public Schools will continue to work cooperatively as we transition students to their home districts. As we progress, our goal in these new settings will be to enhance the quality of services our students receive.”

WCBI will update this as we learn more.
