Video: Medical Chopper Facility Coming to GTRA

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Emergency response time is improving for many North Mississippi residents.

Now, the Golden Triangle Regional Airport will receive $272,303 in grant money to help build a new medical helicopter response facility.

The grant covers half the cost of the project.

The helicopter is operated by the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

“What that does for our area is that it provides another layer of emergency response, medical response, that will help save lives here in the Golden Triangle,” said Mike Hainsey, GTR Executive Director.

Construction on the new facility is set to begin within the next month.

It will be completed by the end of the year.
