Member of Rae Sremmurd gives out free turkeys to community

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A member of the rap group “Rae Sremmurd” was back in his hometown, giving back to the community before Thanksgiving.

Slim Jxmmi spent a couple of hours at Fairpark in downtown Tupelo, handing out turkeys to people two days before Thanksgiving.

Slim Jxmmi, known as “Aaquil” to many in Tupelo, formed the rap group with his brother, Khalif, known as Swae Lee.

The group has enjoyed worldwide success, and Slim Jxmmi said he never will forget his hometown and those who were with him from the start.

“It’s important to do this because this is where I’m from and a lot of these people saw me growing up, they know me and see how far I came and I want them to know I haven’t forgotten about them or where I came from. Sremm Life.”

More than 1,000 turkeys were given out Tuesday afternoon at Fairpark.
