Mennonite Disaster Services help Columbus tornado victims

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Organizations continue to help Columbus tornado victims, who’ve been in need of repairs since the February storm.

Mennonite Disaster Services has been in town all week. The group is repairing two roofs on damaged homes.

An EF-3 twister ripped apart neighborhoods in north and east Columbus, just over eight months ago.

One person was killed and numerous homes were damaged.

The work MDS is doing this week is complete but their helping hands are just getting started in the community.

“They will be back the first week of November they’ll return on November the 4th they will start a rebuild that needs to take place they will start the rebuild and also work on another 10 houses during that span,” said East Mississippi Recovery manager Anzette Thomas.

Community Recovery of Lowndes County is also working with MDS to help coordinate the rebuilding project.

15 MDS members were in Columbus working this week.
