Video: Merit Program Sticking Around in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lowndes County School board has found a way to keep the Merit program going.

We reported earlier this week that the 7th and 8th grade program was in jeopardy because of budget cuts.
Lowndes County is one of the few that still holds the program, but they have found a way to shift things around and so it can stay.

” We’ve gone back and looked at it. We think we can adjust that. Keep it as an elective. Move a couple of teacher units into other positions that they’re certified in and we ought to be able to.”

The Merit program was removed from the school board agenda today, since the board figured out how to make it work.
