MHP encouraging drivers to stay alert on roads during holidays

GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Highway Patrols is reminding drivers to be extra cautious as you get ready for any holiday travel.

With the more people expected to hit the roadways to go to grandma’s, or wherever you may be going to celebrate the holiday, troopers encourage drivers to stay on alert.

You can expect more patrols and safety checkpoints in various locations. This is just MHP’s way of making sure everyone has a safe holiday.

Sergeant Derrick Beckom said in District 5 last year there was one fatal crash. One is one too many said.

“We kind of take it personal in wanting everyone to be home and have a safe holiday and a good time with friends. It’s just so important to make you’re being mindful when out there on the highway,” said Sgt. Beckom.

The holiday reinforcement period runs through the new year holiday.
