MHP Memorial Day Travel Enforcement Period begins Friday

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol begins its Memorial Day Travel Enforcement Period on Friday.

Troopers are also participating in OPERATION CARE, which is a national effort to increase officers presence on highways.

MHP will have more patrols, while looking for speeding and reckless drivers.

Safety checkpoints will look for seat belt violations and impaired drivers.

Just Wednesday, Mississippi was ranked as the second most dangerous state to drive in during the Memorial Day holiday, by A Secure Life.

The website looked at fatal crash statistics between 2013 and 2017 to determine the ranking.

MHP’s travel enforcement period ends Monday at midnight.
