MHP Releases Labor Day Weekend Statistics

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- After a long Labor Day Weekend, the Mississippi Highway Patrol has released its citation totals.

Across the state, 3,843 citations were issued along with 58 DUI arrests.

124 accidents were investigated including 42 injuries and 3 fatalities.

One such fatality occurred Friday around 8 p.m. on MS 370 in Tippah County.

Ronnie Russell, of Corinth, was walking in the westbound lane and then struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A significant decrease in traffic crashes was recorded this weekend compared to last year.
