JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Thanksgiving holiday traffic kept Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers busy over the 4 day travel period.

M.H.P. issued more than 4,800 citations statewide, with 45 of those being D.U.I. offenses.

There were five fatal crashes. They occurred in Wilkinson, Leflore, Benton, Lincoln, and Stone Counties. All of those crashes are still under investigation.

The Thanksgiving enforcement period began Wednesday at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight Sunday, November 27.
