Miss. Gay Adoption Ban Struck Down

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Same sex couples in Mississippi have the right to adopt.

That’s according to a Mississippi judge’s ruling, Thursday.

In it, U.S. District Court Judge Daniel P. Jordan III said the state can no longer enforce a law keeping gay couples from adopting.

Jordan said it “violates the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution.”

Four lesbian couples and two advocacy groups filed the lawsuit.

Mississippi was the last state in the U.S. to ban same sex adoption.
