COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – After winning the crown this summer, Miss Mississippi, Chelsea Rick, has been traveling the state spreading her message about hunger and healthy eating.
Chelsea Rick is from Fulton, Mississippi and competed in pageants for five years before being crowned Miss Mississippi. Rick was also chosen as a Top 15 contestant in the Miss America pageant earlier this month. Through her “Full Plates, Healthy States” initiative, Rick says she’s bringing more awareness to the state’s fight against hunger.
“We need to make sure that the kids that are going without, that might possibly be going to bed hungry, not only are fed but are fed with healthy fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and proteins and whole grains. So that they can go on to lead healthy, productive lives,” says Rick.
Miss Mississippi will spend the next year promoting her platform before heading off to medical school. You can also catch her Tuesday on MidMorning with Aundrea.
