Missing Tupelo K-9 Officer Found Dead; Attorney Wants Autopsy Performed

TUPELO (WCBI) – The search for a missing Tupelo K-9 officer is over.

Alec, a 10 year old Belgian Malinois was found dead this morning. Tupelo Police say it appears Alec was struck by a vehicle in the Mooreville/ Auburn area. The K-9 officer was reported missing Monday after he slipped out of his kennel and escaped his handler’s backyard Sunday evening. Alec is the dog involved in the Ronnie Shumpert case. Shumpert family attorney Carlos Moore tells WCBI his office intends on asking that the remains of Alec be preserved until an autopsy can be performed.
