Mississippi Employment Statistics, 2016-2017

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Good news for the Magnolia state, the number of jobs are on the rise, while unemployment rates continue to fall.

A study conducted by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security shows job numbers from July and September were the highest since May 2008.

Unemployment rates fell from 5.7 % in 2016 to 5.2% this year.

Also since last September, employment within the state has increased by 3,900.

There is one catch though, as the labor force, which is everyone who has or is looking for a job, fell by 3,600 since last year.
