Mississippi’s First Child Flu Death of 2017-2018 Season

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed the first child flu death of this season.

The death occurred in South Mississippi, with few details being released due to the victim’s young age.

Overall, there have been 17 total children to die from the flu in Mississippi since 2008.

Just in the 2017-2018 flu season nationwide, the number of child flu deaths has risen to 30.

This year’s flu strain is particularly harmful for children and those over 65.
