Mississippi’s Jobless Rate the Lowest since 1979
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)-The unemployment rate hits a record low in Mississippi.
The Mississippi Department of Employment Security, says May’s unemployment rate, was 4.9 percent.
This is the lowest it’s been since January 1979.
May’s numbers are one-tenth of a percentage point lower than April’s. Around this time a year ago, the state’s jobless rate was 5.9 percent.
Since May 2016, the number of Mississippians without jobs fell by 11,800.
State officials are citing a higher confidence in the work force economy, as one of the factors that’s fueling the drop.
