More teachers to get pay raise than originally thought

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – The Mississippi Department of Education said more teachers will get a $1,500 pay raise than originally thought.

A review of the total number of state-funded teaching positions showed more than 9,800 educators were excluded from the original estimate.

MDE said the Mississippi Student Information System did not capture some positions as being funded by MAEP.

Teachers, counselors, teacher assistants, librarians, and specialized positions were included in the new numbers.

School districts will have enough money to pay for the raises.

The pay increase will cost Mississippi nearly $77 million.
