MS Secretary Of State announces bid for a higher seat

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is not seeking re-election to his position.

He has his eyes on a higher seat.

Hosemann stopped by Columbus on Wednesday to announce his campaign for Lieutenant Governor.

It was one of several stops on a statewide tour.

Hosemann said his concern for Mississippi’s future inspired him to run.

He said his top priorities include helping small businesses thrive and improving education, healthcare and infrastructure.

“The most important person eight hours a day that we turn over our kids to is a teacher and they are under-compensated and I anticipate the Legislature will begin to rectify that issue this year and hopefully, through the next year and every year that I’m in the Lieutenant Governor’s spot, we’re going to raise teachers pay,” said Hosemann.

“We can’t stop building roads here. I mean, you heard one of the people here today talk about that, and that infrastructure is critical,” said Hosemann.

Hosemann has been serving as Mississippi’s Secretary of State since 2008.
