Video: What Goes Into Preparing For A Super Regional?
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The Super Regional at Mississippi State kicked off this weekend.
A lot of work goes into making sure fans and players have a good time.
Everyone sees the neatly cut grass, the white chalk lines, the freshly painted logos and think it happened over night, but that’s not the case.
“It’s a lot of hardwork behind the scenes to make a good tournament and the NCAA happy as well,” said Jay Logan, super regional tournament manager.
Logan said preparation for the game is a detailed process.
“Just the atmosphere behind the game it makes you want to be on top of things with the number of staff that you have, or getting people into the game, the ticket scanners, making sure we have people who know how to direct people to their seats,” he said.
Logan and his staff put in long hours each day.
“I mean everything from stadium operations, security, first aid, making sure concessions and everything is stocked,” he said. “We’re working with the logistics of TV, when they come in to set up meeting them, making sure our field management, turf crew, to our stadium management and everything is geared towards making a good impression towards the visiting team and fans.”
Logan and his staff know what it means to make a good impression, ensuring events that bring national attention to Mississippi State go off without a hitch.
“This year we’ve been fortunate enough to host the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, the SEC Softball tournament, and now a regional and super regional tournament,” he said.
The experience of hosting those events, also allows the MSU behind the scenes team the practice needed to pull off large game plan.
“That’s kid of our goal at the end of the day is to make sure that everybody has a good time, everything is safe and sound, and it’s the best atmosphere in college baseball that we can present,” said Logan.
MSU also brought in a large, mobile television screen behind the third base stands.
Because a ticket will only get you in the stadium, it doesn’t not guarentee a seat or a view of the field.
