MSU rolls out new Maroon Alert system

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi State University’s Emergency Management team launched the new and improved Maroon Alert system Friday.

The system has several new features and will be able to alert students via text messages, phone calls, social media, and even university desk tops.

The system also comes with a new app called “Everbridge.”

The app will provide push alerts as well as give users the option to receive severe weather updates.

Emergency Management Director Brent Crocker said these updates are necessary to get the users attention.

“Students have so many messages hitting their phones that often times the message may go unnoticed for a period of time. Our new system will attempt to reach them by text, but it will also try email and it will try phone calls as well. It will continue to try and contact until the message has been confirmed,” said Crocker.

The new Maroon Alert system is also available to the public.

Anyone visiting campus or attending a sporting event can receive alerts by texting “MAROON ALERT” to 888-777
