Multiple Arrests In Booneville

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- The Booneville Police Department has arrested and charged Vernon Ray Smith, 44 of Booneville, with Felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon after previously being convicted of a felony.

Patrol officers encountered Mr. Smith during patrol operations and found him to have been in possession of a deadly weapon which led to his felony arrest.

His bond was set at $2,000.00. His case will be presented to the next Prentiss County Grand Jury.

 

The Booneville Police Department has arrested and charged Joel Daniel Curtiss, 32 of Booneville, with Burglary of an Automobile.

The burglary occurred on 08/30/2017 when Mr. Curtiss entered into an unlocked vehicle at a residence during the night and stole a 9mm handgun.

The gun was later used by a separate individual to commit a felony act of violence later the same evening. Mr. Curtiss’ bond was set at $10,000.00. His case will be presented to the next Prentiss County Grand Jury.

 

The Booneville Police Department has arrested and charged Octravis Jamal Burress, 16 of Booneville, with Feloniously Shooting into a Motor Vehicle and Feloniously Possessing a Stolen Firearm.

His arrest stemmed from a reported shooting incident at College View Apartments during the afternoon of 08/30/2017.

Mr. Burress is charged with shooting at a motor vehicle as it fled the area and turned North onto North College Street out of the apartment complex.

Mr. Burress was located with the handgun in the apartment complex and transported to Alcorn County JDC. A hearing was held on 09/01/2017 resulting in Mr. Burress being charged as an adult and transferred to the Prentiss County Jail.

His bond was set at $100,000.00. His case will be presented to the next Prentiss County Grand Jury.

The firearm he was found to possess was determined to have been involved in the shooting and was also determined to be the weapon reported stolen from a vehicle at a residence the night before by Joel Daniel Curtiss. Mr. Curtiss is charged with burglary of an auto for the theft.
