MUW concludes shooting investigation

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The investigation into a January 4 shooting, near the campus of Mississippi University for Women has closed.

University police said the shooting was self-inflicted.

In a press release, MUW officials said officers obtained statements from all parties involved.

During the incident, the campus was quickly put on lock down.

“We can now confidently say that the W was never in any immediate danger. At the time we issued the lockdown notification, we were acting on the information that there was a potential suspect with a weapon,” said MUW Police Chief, Randy Vibrock.

The university will not pursue charges.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. that Friday. A weapon was recovered at the scene, inside the victim’s car.

The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital.
