Narcotics Agent Bit After Foot Chase

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County Narcotics Task Force agent is bitten by a suspect after a traffic stop and foot chase.

36-year-old Brian Bishop is charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. We are told that charge could be a felony, depending on the severity of the agent’s wounds.

Bishop is also charged with Failure to Obey a Police Officer, Possession of Marijuana and Resisting Arrest.

The incident started about noon, near the intersection of 22nd and Main Streets.

A city spokesman says when Columbus police stopped to help a stranded driver, they smelled marijuana.

As task force agents arrived and attempted to talk with Bishop, he ran.

Task force agents were nearby and stopped to help.

Bishop didn’t get far. When law enforcement went to arrest Bishop, that’s when he allegedly bit the agent.

The agent did get stitches in his hand.
