COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A newly formed neighborhood watch group holds its first meeting this year.

The Southside/Downtown Columbus Neighborhood Watch program was formed late last year to help cut back on crime, and residents say overall they’re making progress.

They met with police officers and community leaders Thursday night to talk about plans to clean up the Southside area.

They also discussed how to better organize the new group.

So far, residents have launched both an e-mail list, and neighborhood app.

More police officers have also been patrolling the area.
