Corinth, Mississippi (WCBI) – Corinth inaugurated its new police chief Thursday evening.

Ralph Dance took the oath of office with family and friends.  Dance was a captain in the department before defeating Fred Gooch in the general election.

Former chief David Lancaster retired and didn’t run for re-election.

Dance says he’s excited about the opportunity to serve.

“It’s a big honor. I’m very excited about it. It’s something I’ve been working for almost 25 years. I hate to see our old chief go. He’s a good friend of mine. I’ve got a lot of new ideas and I’m excited to just take the helm and run with it,” said Dance.

Mayor Tommy Irwin will be sworn in for his second term Friday.

The Board of Alderman will have its ceremony October 30th.
