New Hope, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County deputies and other law enforcement investigators responded to all New Hope schools Tuesday because of a bomb threat sent in a text message.

Investigators said a teacher received the text message that vaguely stated that a New Hope school would “blow up”.

Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge said the department received the call around 10 A.M., and all students and staff were evacuated. New Hope schools also released early due to the threat.

“We were fortunate the there was a school in Starkville with bomb dogs…”, said Arledge, “…we brought in our bomb dog in and we had the resources of M.H.P. and several others because there was actual training in Starkville, so that made it a little bit quicker.”

Arledge also said that when deputies respond to a bomb threat, their number one priority is “to try and do our best to take care of their children, and get them out of that situation…before we take any action.”

Arledge said parents can contact the school, the Sheriff’s department, or pay attention to local media to get updates on a bomb threat situation.

Investigators said after their initial investigation, they are confident an arrest will be made.
