Video: New Jobs Coming To One North Mississippi City

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI)- New Jobs will soon be coming to Abderdeen.

On Tuesday,  the Board of Alderman met and came to an agreement to have Delta agricultural Management Company, LLC come into the area.

Aberdeen Mayor Maurice Howard said said this is something the city desperately needed.  It’s been 20 years since the city has had an industry come into the city.

The company will bring in 40 new jobs to the city, and there could potentially be a chance to double that to 80 jobs.

Delta Agricultural Management Company, LLC is a company that produces fish and all natural products.

Mayor Howard said The 24 hour operation will pay workers $24.50  an hour.

The Aberdeen Board of Alderman is expected to meet with representatives of the company later this week to discuss what will be the next step forward moving forward and discuss a starting date.

“Jobs are of course a needed thing for everyone, but here in Aberdeen it’s paramount,” said Justin Crosby, PR specialist for the city of Aberdeen. “We’re really excited and happy that the board saw fit to make this move forward and we’re hoping this becomes the very first thing, and we’re hoping that other industries now would reach out to our mayor, our board of alderman and see that Aberdeen is open for business.”

“Most people go to Columbus, Tupelo, or West Point to work, and it’s a long way to travel,” said Aberdeen resident, Joyce Vasser. “If we had it here in Aberdeen, they can make their money here in Aberdeen and spend it here in Aberdeen.”

“Well 40 new jobs in a place like this will be great, first of all, we don’t have that many jobs, and so if you come put 40 people to work, that’ll be great,” said Aberdeen resident Terry Williams.

Mayor Howard said Delta agricultural Management Company, LLC will be located right across the street from the Sheriff’s Department.
