TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Excitement has turned mourning at the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo.

A giraffe born Wednesday evening to Patches and Too Tall, the zoo’s adult giraffes, was found dead this morning, his parents at her side, zoo officials said.

An autopsy will be performed at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.

Zoo officials said baby giraffe was fine Saturday night when the staff left.

A contest to pick a name for the young female will go on and the name will be placed on a plaque in her memory.
