News county supervisor elected in Monroe County

MONROE, Miss. (WCBI) – There were a few close races in Monroe, but now that the absentee votes are in, it looks like new faces will be taking over.

One of those close races was the District three Country Supervisor race.

Three candidates were competing for the seat, but it came down to republican Brian Atkins versus independent Rubel West.

When the absentees were added, West took the lead by sixteen votes.

“Everyone that’s ever been in politics that’s ever been in county politics told me that running as an independent candidate, you got zero chance you might as well just throw, throw your money away you have zero chance. I’m not any ole independent candidate, you know, a fella told me one time I was trying to decide which way to run. He said run who you are, and that’s what I am,” said West.

Tax Collector and District 2 County Supervisor will also see new faces after last night’s election.
