Night Out On Crime

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Police departments across the country are taking their education program into the neighborhoods. It’s the national “Night Out On Crime” and it’s goal is to reduce crime in local communities. The East Columbus Gymnasium was just one of 3 other locations in the city that hosted the event.

“It’s a lot of work prepared, something for the community to get the kids out, get the families together kind of let them know we want to wipe out our crime in out neighborhoods,” said site coordinator Lavonne Harris.

“Just learning how to say no to drugs and how to stay away from any crime situation or being involved in any crime so hopefully that will be instilled in them tonight as well,” added parent Lauretta Tucker.

Organizers hope it will generate support for local anti crime programs.
The Columbus Police Department and Fire Department were a part of the festivities.
