NMMC offers class for people trying to quit smoking

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – North Mississippi Medical Center is offering a class for people wanting to quit smoking or using other tobacco products.

The class is scheduled to meet Mondays at 5:30 p.m. February 11-March 25. It will be held in Room 21 of NMMC’s East Tower at 830 S. Gloster Street.

Health history, habits, and smoking patterns will be discussed in the first meeting.

NMCC says a baseline measurement of each participant’s carbon monoxide level will be done at the first session and monitored weekly for progress.

Leader of the program, nurse practitioner and director of Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship, Rebecca Cagle says the program helps participants to set short-term goals and work towards them.

The program will not be able to provide nicotine replacement products or prescriptions, but Cagle encourages participants to talk to their health care provider about what would work best for them.

Instructors for the program will help participants stay on track by following up with them to offer encouragement for one year.

To register for either class, call (662) 377-5787 or 1-800-THE DESK (1-800-843-3375).
