COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It looks like the Friendly City won’t be implementing an open container law anytime soon.

Columbus city councilmen didn’t vote on the issue at Tuesday night’s meeting.

They had already tabled it last week.

Some city leaders were looking at an ordinance to make it illegal to possess an open container in the passenger compartment of a car on city property and public areas, with certain exceptions.

The city of Tupelo has a similar ordinance.

WCBI was told there are 39 states with open container laws, but Mississippi isn’t one of them.
