North Miss. Fire Department Needs Recruiting Help
LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lafayette County fire department needs some help recruiting volunteers.
That’s why Deputy Fire Chief Wes Anderson is asking county supervisors for more than $334,000 to hire six new employees.
Anderson says it was easier to recruit volunteer firefighters years ago, but now state law requires them to go through 80 hours of training.
Many of the department’s current volunteers are Ole Miss students, off-duty Oxford firefighters, or they’re getting older.
