Noxapater faces brunt of storm’s wrath

NOXAPATER, Miss. (WCBI) – Winston County is no stranger to Mother Nature’s fury. Thursday night strong did a number on a few area towns.

EMA Director Buddy King said high winds knocked down numerous trees blocking several roadways in the parts of the county.

The town of Noxapater got quite a bit of the damage.

King said a few area homes had trees blown on top of them. The good news no injuries in that area have been reported.

Through the night, King said everyone worked together to clear roads and make sure folks were okay.

“There was a great response for needs for opening roads and checking on citizens last night. Things really came together from the sheriff’s department, road crews and the city of Louisville loaned us two crews to help open roads and we appreciate that. And our citizens, that’s what made a difference, citizens helping their neighbors,” said King.

Thursday night nearly 3,000 people were without power in Winston County. Some still remain without electricity in Nanih Waiya.
