Update: One In Custody After A Stabbing Near Sturgis

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) – On June 26, 2017 at approximately 6:00 PM, Deputies of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a disturbance on Maben/Sturgis Rd. and Simmons Rd. Upon arrival, deputies found that two females had been assaulted. This assault was a result of a Domestic Violence situation. One of the victims is a 40 year old Female from Mathiston, Ms who was stabbed in the arm during the assault. She was transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital and treated and released with Non-Life Threatening injuries. The second victim is a 36 year old Female from Sturgis, Ms. This victim ran into a wooded area to escape her attacker. Witnesses saw this female enter the woods and that is where the search began. A search was conducted throughout the night and this victim was located at approximately 6:00 AM on the morning of June 27, 2017 in a wooded area off of Big Creek Rd.

James Thomas Gregg of Simmons Road in Sturgis, 41 years of age was arrested at his residence at approximately 8:00 PM on June 26, 2017. He was arrested with no incident and transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail and booked in on the charges of Aggravated Assault and Possession of Paraphernalia. No Bond has been set for Mr. Gregg at the time of this press release. The investigation is still ongoing and we do expect additional charges to be filed against Mr. Gregg.

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the agencies that assisted with the search for this victim: Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Departments from Sturgis, Maben, and Central stations, Oktibbeha County EMA/911, Webster County Search Team, Golden Triangle Planning, Mississippi Highway Patrol, MSU Police Department and the Mississippi Task Force 2.

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is in custody after one person is stabbed and another ran for her life near Sturgis.

Oktibbeha County deputies received a call about a disturbance and altercation about 6 PM on Monday night.

Sheriff Steve Gladney says a woman was treated and released from the hospital for her wounds.

Another woman ran from the scene and into some nearby woods.

Law enforcement and search crews looked for her all night long. She was found early Tuesday morning with non life-threatening injuries.

No names are being released at this time.

Gladney says he expects more information to be released sometime today.
