One local bakery decides to help feed the homeless

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A local bakery is giving back to the community, one pink goodie bag at a time.

Southern Flour Bakery owner Nicole Huff noticed trash was scattered around her restaurant’s dumpsters.

Desperate to find answers, a staff member then notified her of people digging through the dumpsters, looking for a meal.

Instead of having the homeless dig through the trash, she started placing it on the top to make it a bit easier for them to grab.

She thinks every restaurant should pay it forward and stop throwing leftover food at the bottom of the dumpsters.

“I would like to challenge other business owners, restaurant owners if you have food and you’re trashing it, sit it on top, somebody will get it,” said Huff.

Nicole says she wants to help the community as much as possible.
