Oxford man arrested for attempted carjacking and motor vehicle theft

OXFORD, MISS. (WCBI) – Oxford police say a traffic accident turned into an attempted carjacking.

Now, 21-year-old Lapatrick Whitehead is charged with attempted carjacking and motor vehicle theft.

Investigators say an accident happened this past Saturday night on Jackson Avenue.

Police believe Whitehead was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

He’s accused of attempting to carjack a vehicle involved in the accident before officers arrived.

When a passerby stopped to help, Whitehead is accused of taking that person’s car.

He was later stopped and arrested.

Whitehead’s bond is set at six thousand dollars.
