Oxford Schools Rolls Out New App For Tracking Buses

PRESS RELEASE
Oxford, Mississippi—Oxford School District (OSD) parents can now track their child’s specific school bus in real time, thanks to a new mobile app called SpotMyBus.

SpotMyBus is a smartphone app that shows where the school bus is and tells parents and students when the bus will arrive at their bus stop. The mobile app uses information from GPS trackers, which were installed on all Oxford school buses at the beginning of the school year. The app is free to download and available for both Android and iPhone users. Users will need to visit the mobile app’s website, spotmybus.com,  to download the free mobile app.
The Oxford School District is providing a special code only to parents and legal guardians that they will need in order to track their children’s buses. With the new mobile app, school officials say gone are the days of guessing where the school bus is, or whether a student missed the bus altogether.
“Parents and students will no longer have to rush to meet a bus that is actually running late,” said Sonny Brownlee, transportation director for the Oxford School District. “Hopefully, the app will also mean no more endless waiting for the bus in the rain, wind or cold.”
According to school officials, the mobile app will help decrease the number of calls parents have to make to the district or their child’s school asking “Where is my child’s bus?”.
Another perk of the SpotMyBus mobile app: parents can also track buses taking their children to and from field trips and sporting events.
While Oxford School District students spend the next two to three weeks studying their assignments, SpotMyBus will be studying Oxford’s school bus routes and traffic patterns.
“SpotMyBus will show the bus location updating every 30 seconds during a ‘study period’”, said Brownlee. “After the study period, the mobile app will be able to predict arrival times at each bus stop.”
Another positive feature for Oxford parents is if they have children riding different school buses, they can track each bus.
“Parents can even set alarms to notify them when the bus is ten minutes away or two,” said Brownlee. “We love the app because it will help parents worry less when it comes to their children.”
