Parvin Ordered a New Trial

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-The Mississippi Supreme Court has ordered a new trial for Former MSU Professor David Parvin of Monroe County. Parvin was convicted in the 2007 shooting death of his wife Joyce. The Supreme Court ruled today that the trial judge erred in allowing testimony from an incident reconstructionist and computer-generated images that relied on the pathologist’s approximation of relevant angles and distances and failed to take into account the testing by the firearms examiner.

The couple were at home on Deer Road in Aberdeen at the time of the shooting. Parvin called 911, and told police officers the gun he was holding went off when he tripped. The shooting was ruled accidental, but later investigators charged Parvin in 2009. Parvin was convicted in 2011. He was sentenced to life in prison.
