Pennies For Plates Community Outreach
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Congregation of Community Wide Outreach Ministry says it wants to live up to its name.
Saturday, the Columbus church held its first ever pennies for plates event.
The event was sponsored by the church’s youth ministries.
Over the last month the youth have raised more than $300.
Those dollars went towards purchasing food to prepare and serve the community.
This morning, members of the congregation handed out sack lunches.
grilled hamburgs and hot-dog meals were given to anyone regardless of need.
Pastor Randy Randle Sr. says the money raised fed 80 people.
“We feel like there’s a need to reach out to the community because we are a community wide outreach and out reaching is what we do,” said Randle.
“I hope from this my youth will learn how important it is to give back how to show love in the community as god loved us just take from this giving back,” said Carmen Durrah.
Pastor Randle says the turnout was so overwhelming they’d run out of sacked lunches within the first 30 minutes.
The Community Wide Outreach Ministry plans on making this an annual event.
