Phone scammers pretending to be law enforcement in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Scammers are targeting Lee County residents by pretending to be with law enforcement.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Department, scammers call residents saying there is a warrant out for their arrest. They say to take care of the warrant, residents must go and buy prepaid cards and give the scammers the information on them to take care of the fine, or they will be arrested.

The department reminds residents it does not call over the phone to arrange payment for fines and warrants.

If you do receive a call like this, you are urged to not give any money and to call and report the activity to Lee County.
