Video: Pickens Sheriff: Beware Of Scammers

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – They have been few and far between but scammers are targeting Pickens County, Alabama storm victims.

Sheriff David Abston says most people that have come in to help tornado victims have been very helpful. The storms hit just over two weeks ago.

However, Abston says there are scammers out there.

The longtime sheriff says it’s almost a double hit, because this is the time of year when people start spring cleaning.

Most of the time the elderly are targets of the thieves.

Everything from roofing to bait and switch schemes are possible.

Abston says to call deputies if you feel like you’ve been scammed, because the crooks could face criminal charges.
