ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI)- While several questions remain surrounding Teresa Ewing’s death, Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Randle wants to clear up some of the rumors. For example, Teresa’s  body was not moved from a well near Peacock Alley to the woods.

“We heard that the body was found in the well. The well is approximately anywhere from 80 to 100 feet. There is no way that the body was in that well because of the depth of it,” said Chief Henry Randle.

Ewing was last seen August 25th. Randle says searchers overlooked the area on Peacock Alley because it was heavily shaded by tall trees. That shading helped slow down the decomposition process.

“In Peacock Alley, there’s a shaded area. It’s extremely cooler back there and there is no sun. Where we’re facing right now, we’re in 90 degree weather, the body was facing 70 degree weather. That’s why the body was still in shape.”

Another fact: Dead carcasses. The location is a popular dump site. That’s another reason why it was overlooked.

“There was a family out here actually looking and helping with the search. They smelled a foul smell. So they actually started up, Peacock Alley. Once they got halfway they saw a k-9 lying on the road. They said, ok, that’s what we smell and turned around. Little did they know that Ms. Ewing was only a few yards down the street from the K-9,” said Chief Henry Randle.

Right now authorities are still questioning Ewing’s ex-boyfriend, Brian Lyons. They’re also looking into a second potential suspect.

“He has a history with Ms. Ewing as well. Until we can eliminate a couple of things with Mr. Lyons before we start interviewing and interrogating him, we want to make sure we cover all the basics with Mr.Lyons first,” said Chief Henry Randle.

Chief Randle tells us Brian Lyons is currently out on bond. They’re waiting on the medical examiner’s full report before they continue their investigation.

Right now, Teresa’s cause and manner of death have not been determined.

Officials expect a full report from the medical examiner’s office by Wednesday or Thursday.
