Prayer Vigil Held Remembering Dijonae White

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Hundreds gathered to pray for the family of the 14 year old girl who was killed in a weekend shooting.

The vigil and balloon release for the family of Dijonae White was held at Gumtree Park Thursday evening in Tupelo.

White was a student at Tupelo Middle School where she played on the basketball team.

Family members, friends and people from the area attended the vigil.

Area pastors read scripture, prayed and offered encouragement for the family.

Organizers of the vigil say the family will need a lot of support in the coming weeks and months.

“They just need to keep the family in prayer,  keep them lifted up. This is a trying time for them, be there and pray for them, be there to encourage them,” said Suntanna Fleming.

Dijonae reportedly was shot by her brother after she refused to give him a video game controller.

The incident happened in Monroe County and is still under investigation.
