Preliminary Hearing Held For The Men Accused In MSU Student Involved Shooting

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-A preliminary hearing was held in Starkville for two people charged in connection with the shooting death of a Mississippi State University student.

It’s been one month since 21-year old Joseph Tillman was shot and killed in Starkville’s Cotton District.

On Thursday, Starkville Muncipal Judge Rodney Faver ruled there’s enough probable cause to charge 20-year old Jaylen Barker and 18-year old Syboris Pippins with capital murder.

Barker is also being charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Bond is set at $2,000,000 each for the men, and Barkers bond for the firearm charge is $25,000.

Three other people charged in connection with Tillman’s homicide are Jamario Pippins, Brandon Sherrod, and his nephew 16-year old Tyler Harris.

All three are being charged with accessory after the fact, and they’re currently out of jail on bond.

Harris however, is having his case handled in youth court since he’s a juvenile.

Detective Jonathan Headley of the Starkville Police Department testified during Thursday’s hearing.

Prosecutors tell WCBI the next phase of the case will happen when a grand jury convenes in July.
