Preps to avoid holiday season thefts

Police say Christmas time is often busy time for criminals.

Investigators we talked to say don’t make yourself an easy target by letting know would-burglars know what was under your tree.

They say the trash you put on the street could make you a target. So be sure to break down t.v. boxes and any other large items.

It’s also a good idea to make sure no packages are left on your front door step while you are out of town.

“What we tell our citizens around here is especially if you’re ordering things off the Internet. You know you can when you make your order, you can leave special instructions for the delivery guy one thing I tell people is if you have a storage room or something like that leave a special instruction or put your packages in the storage room,” says Winona Police Investigator Dan Herod.

If you can, it’s a good idea to take your trash to your local dump.
