Nicole Pounders, RN, BSN has been named director of the hospital’s Education department. In that position she will oversee all nursing and staff education, orientation of all newly hired nursing staff, among other duties.

Originally from Columbus, Nicole received an associate’s degree in general studies from East Mississippi Community College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women. She began her nursing career at Baptist as a student nurse/extern in the Critical Care Unit in 2004. She went to work as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit in May 2005. She also worked as a nurse in Express Admissions where she enhanced the inpatient admission process by directing care to the patients’ bedside on all units following admission from physicians’ offices, surgery and/or the emergency department.

In June 2006 she transferred to the Education Department where she became a nurse educator. She stepped up to interim director after then director Lauri Sansing became Director of the Emergency Room, Critical Care and Progressive Care Units in April 2012.

Nicole and her husband Jerry have two children Lane, 5 and Lily, 2 and are active members of Zion Assembly Church of God. In her free time Nicole stays busy with church work and spending time with her children.

With 328 beds, Baptist Golden Triangle is the largest regional hospital affiliated with the Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care system.
