Rainy, Breezy Today and Friday.

TODAY: An upper level low pushes across Mississippi and Alabama today, bringing with it some drizzle and light showers. Winds calm to light and variable in the morning, then a northwesterly wind at 10 mph with gusts around 15 mph develops in the afternoon. A few more showers likely in the evening and overnight hours. Highs in the mid 50s, with lows in the upper 30s. Northwesterly winds continue overnight at 15 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph.

FRIDAY: A few showers possible in the morning, then drying off in the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. A shot of cold air moves in behind the upper level low, with high temperatures staying in the 40s. Northwesterly winds will be quite breezy, in the 10-20 mph range with gusts around 30 mph. Winds die down overnight under partly cloudy skies. Lows in the upper 20s and low 30s.

SATURDAY: Mild and mostly sunny to kick off the weekend thanks to upper level ridging and a surface high. High temperatures quickly rebound from Friday’s cold shot back into the mid 50s. A few clouds build in Saturday night, with lows in the upper 30s.

SUN/MON/TUE/WED: A series of weak upper level shortwave troughs push across central US next week, weakening our ridge some and providing low end rain chances. The main pieces of energy associated with these shortwaves will stay north of our area, but we weaken our ridge enough and have enough moisture to squeeze out a few showers. A few hit or miss showers will be possible Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Wednesday. Despite the rain chances, temperatures will be on an upward trend. We’ll go from the 50s Sunday and Monday to the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday.
