Rebuilding and recovery efforts continue in Hamilton

HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Recovery continues in Hamilton a little over a week since an EF2 twister barreled through the area.

A lot of debris can still be seen, but a lot of clean up work has been done.

The community has come together as one to help rebuild their town and each other.

Locals are using the phrase ‘Hamilton Strong’ during their recovery efforts.

Although there’s still much left to do, everyone is taking it one day at a time.

“You see people helping each other. I’m trying not to cry. It’s just amazing how everybody is coming together to help and clean and people offering to feed you, to wash your clothes, to just everything,” says Hamilton native Debra Lawrence.

“Just shortly hours after the tornado, they had a large group of local people who turned out. Neighbor helping neighbor and friend helping friend. A lot of the work has been done by those groups and the community is really coming together, as they face the days that are ahead for them,” says VOAD Organization member Rev. Hubert Yates.

Over a thousand volunteers are registered to help in Hamilton, including locals and out of town organizations.
