Video: Red Kettle Crisis
Columbus,MS (WCBI)-The shorter shopping season is having a deep impact on the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign. This year’s collections are 14 thousand dollars down from the same time last year, and with only one day left in the campaign the Columbus chapter finds itself with very little time to make up the shortfall.
The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s major source of funding for their annual programs. For now Major Eric Roberts, the director of the Columbus chapter,is focusing on the positives. The Columbus Salvation Army has experienced an upswing in toy and gift donations, and they were able to serve 300 area families through their Angel Tree program. But if the chapter doesn’t meet their funding goals, then Roberts says that they may be forced to make cuts in services. The Bell-Ringers and Red Kettles will be out until Tuesday.
