COLUMBUS, Miss. – On Friday, Sept. 14, the steering committee comprised of representatives from Clay, Lowndes, and Oktibbeha County will present to the public a plan for the economic development of the Golden Triangle region.

The presentation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Lyceum Building on the East Mississippi Community College- Mayhew campus. Citizens from all three counties are welcome to attend.

The steering committee was formed in July and representatives from all three counties met to discuss the possibility and implementation of a Regional Development organization. The steering committee was charged with exploring formation, purpose, governance, administration, funding, duties and implementation for a potential regional partnership. The full plan will be unveiled to the public during the event.

“I am a firm believer that what is good for one of our three communities is good for all, says Gordon Flowers, Vice Chairman of the LINK. “For that reason I am a firm supporter in this regional concept.”

“In October Clay and Lowndes county came together, and now we have added the missing piece of the Golden Triangle with Oktibbeha, ” said Jackie Edwards, president of the Clay County Growth Alliance. “It is time to get on with the job of creating jobs.”

“I am confident that this Regional Economic endeavor will be a great success story,” said Jack Wallace, president of Oktibbeha County Economic Development Authority. “The Golden Triangle is set to become the focal point for economic development in Mississippi. I am excited about our future.”

Members of the steering committee are:

Clay County – Robbie Robinson and Jackie Edwards

Lowndes County – Gordon Flowers and Jim McAlexander

Oktibbeha County – Marvel Howard, Jack Wallace and Parker Wiseman
